Thoughts about RSS Feeds

I have had the opportunity to subscribe to rss feeds, but have never had the knowledge of actually creating one until I took a course though Kent State. I was wondering how others have used them or seen them used with teaching? Please share.

My approach to RSS is to first think about the things that really matters to me. This seems pretty obvious but it may not be. Sometimes it's hard to figure out what we *do* like, and what we would really enjoy reading about everyday. Before subscribing to music feeds, I made a list of artists that were on my iPod and then subscribed only to those bands' feeds. If you keep it open, you might find a lot of sites offering you RSS all the time, even though they may not be that important to you.

On my computer there is a little gadget that is a list of recent news stories. Most are from MSN, but all of my RSS feeds show up there as well. I use them to keep track of friends and family, but also relevant news that I could use in my life and/or in the classroom.

I think RSS feeds can be very useful for those who do not have time to search for bits of information. Once you subscribe, it does the work for you.
